A Snow Story for Winter Solstice

While listening to Radiolab the other day, I learned about Wilson Bentley's snowflake photographs. In addition to making beautiful images of snowflake diversity, he also had a pretty amazing life story. Certainly worth a listen!

Happy First Day of Winter!

Find of the Day

Tea Toned Cyanotype by Emma Powell

Researching cyanotypes for a summer project and came across the work of Emma Powell (above). She also has a series by the title "George Eastman" (the founder of Kodak) that shares the same beautifully romantic view of photography and it's history as the image above.

Balance

AP Photo/New York City Municipal Archives, Department of Bridges/Plant & Structures, Eugene de Salignac

So this has been a month of the good with the bad, but thankfully, mostly good. The PMA show is on hold and may not be, but my life is so insanely hectic right now that I honestly didn't know how I was going to find the time to make that show happen. Trevor and I moved into our new/200+ year old house which has been a labor of love and is certainly keeping us out of trouble. Working as the inhouse photographer for Thos. Moser has been an unbelievable opportunity, and I am so excited to finish the product shots for their new contract site and share them with everyone.

This past year I have worked so hard and so much that trying to find balance in life has become my number one goal and hardest thing to understand/maintain. I think this house has really helped me to breathe in life and the time I so incredibly cherish with my husband. Next goal, incorporate fly fishing back into my life for the summer... and MORE ART!

Here's a link to an interesting article that the above photo was pulled from...

"New York City Makes 870,000 Rarely Seen Photos Available to the Public"

Oh, and another good thing... our cat, Mr. Bentley, was returned to us today after a mysterious 3 month disappearance!

Murmuration

I know I already posted this on facebook, but I came across it again today and had to share it here. If you're looking for an uplifting and revitalizing middle of the week work break then watch this video. Out of this world! So wonderfully amazing...

New Room

A new room has been started (restarted to be honest, it was the red wallpapered room previously posted) and nearly completed this week. Woo progress! Need to figure out what will go outside of the window. Might paint the floor white to create more of a "study in white". Also needed is a ceiling. The theme will be centered around the small carvings in the window and will probably contain no furniture or objects.

Forgive the gnarly iphone photo. I'm trying to keep the previews low res and simple before they are shown in April. I would like for them to be a little bit of a surprise! Don't worry if you're out of the area though, I'll be posting high res images shortly after the show goes up.
